The Future for Dementia

(Human Rights and Dementia - MODULE TWO)

The rights of every human being is fundamentally important to all of us.  This is no different for people living with dementia, their family members/friends, unpaid carers and those working to support and help.  Laws to protect the rights of everyone across the world are set by the United Nations, right through to Scotland and the local communities within it.  Yet how much do you know and understand human rights in dementia?

Every human being has the right to life, the right not to be discriminated against and the right to have family life and privacy.  Do you experience these within the world of dementia and cognitive impairment?  Do you know how to ensure they are met and achieved?

In this course you will be exploring all this and more.  Starting with the building blocks of understanding what human rights are, how it affects people living with dementia, through to policies in Scotland, right through to how you can get involved to help yourself and others ensure their human rights are met.

In this second module (MODULE TWO), you will be building on your learning from Module One, exploring specifically what Scotland is doing for the future of human rights in dementia.  What is Scotland doing to change laws, legislation and policies to ensure all areas of human rights are considered for people living and being with dementia.  You will initially, review what you learnt in Module One, then go on to learn about the United Nations Conventions on Rights comparing this to dementia.  The rest of the module will be exploring in depth the changes Scotland has been making in local dementia policy and practices.

To access this course, you will need to self enrol on the course.  This is really easy, just follow the instructions and provide your name, email address and a password.
